Visualization styles

  • Spectrum Bars

    Vertical frequency bars, the most recognisable music visualizer shape. Low frequencies on the left, high on the right.

  • Starburst

    Sharp spikes radiating from a centre, mirrored into a star. The most recognisable shape for release art and cover videos.

  • Circular Spectrum

    Frequency bars arranged around a ring. Works well centred over artwork.

  • Tunnel

    Frames receding towards a vanishing point, each one sized by a different frequency. Gives a sense of depth a flat spectrum cannot.

  • Ribbon

    A thick flowing band that twists with the waveform. Softer and more organic than a line.

  • Orb

    A glowing core that swells with the level, ringed by circles that each track a different part of the spectrum.

    Hundreds of fine radial lines. Reads as a shimmering halo rather than as individual bars.

What a music visualizer is

A music visualizer reads a track as it plays and draws something that moves with it. Loud parts push the shapes further, bass and treble drive different parts of the picture, and the result is a video you can put on YouTube, Instagram or anywhere else that wants moving images instead of a static cover.

This one runs online, in the browser tab you already have open. You pick a style, set the colours, drag it where you want on the canvas, and the preview reacts while the song plays. When it looks right, you export.

Formats it reads

MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC. Files up to 50 MB and ten minutes. Whether a particular file opens also depends on which codecs your browser ships, and you get a clear message rather than a silent failure if one will not decode.

How it reads the audio

Underneath, the visualizer runs a fast Fourier transform on the decoded audio. That splits each moment of sound into frequency bands, with bass at the bottom of the range and treble at the top. The visualizer maps those bands onto whatever it draws, so a bass hit swells the low end of a spectrum while a hi-hat flickers at the far side.

You decide how sharply it responds. Sensitivity for bass, mids and treble is separate, so you can let the low end dominate or hold it back. Smoothing evens out the jitter between frames. Attack sets how fast a shape jumps on a transient, and decay sets how slowly it settles afterwards. Loose values give a twitchy look, tight ones give something calmer.

The frequency range itself is adjustable too. Narrow it to the sub bass for a kick driven look, or open it wide so the whole track has a say in what moves.

Getting it out

Video with audio. Rendered at 480p, 720p or 1080p in whatever aspect ratio your canvas is set to. On Chrome, Edge and Firefox it encodes offline with WebCodecs, usually several times faster than the length of the track. Older browsers fall back to recording in real time.

Transparent video. A clip with a real alpha channel, WebM or ProRes. Import it into your editor and put the visualizer over your own footage. See transparent music visualizer for how that works and what the format costs you.

Basic controls are visible by default. Anything more specialised sits in a section you can open when you need it.

    Every slider updates the canvas while the track plays. You are looking at the finished frame, not an approximation of it.

  • Thirty nine visualizer styles

    Waveforms, spectrum bars, circular rings, star bursts, ribbons, particles, and a set of 3D scenes drawn on your graphics card. Each one has its own controls rather than a shared set of generic sliders.

  • Colours you choose

    Solid, two colour gradient, or a blend mapped across the frequency range. Set opacity and glow separately so a look can be loud or quiet.

    Drop in album art or a photo and adjust scale, blur, brightness and contrast. The image stays on your machine.

What is a music visualizer?

A music visualizer is an animation that reacts to audio. It reads the loudness and frequency content of a track as it plays and turns that into moving shapes, most often bars, waveforms or rings. It is a common way to give a song something to show on YouTube and other video platforms.

Can I create a music visualizer online?

Yes. This one runs in your browser. Open the editor, drop in an audio file, pick a style and adjust it while the track plays. There is no account and nothing to install.

What audio formats are supported?

You can upload MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC. Files are limited to 50 MB and 10 minutes. Whether a specific file decodes also depends on your browser, and you will get a clear message if one does not.

Can I upload my own background image?

Yes. JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF all work. Once it is loaded you can set how it fits the frame and adjust scale, position, blur, brightness, contrast and saturation. The visualizer sits on a separate layer, so moving one does not move the other.

Can I export a transparent visualizer?

Yes, as a video with a real alpha channel, either WebM or ProRes 4444. It imports into After Effects, Premiere, Resolve or Final Cut with the transparency intact. The encoding runs in your browser, so the first transparent export downloads a one time encoder of about 32 MB.

Can I use my visualizer on YouTube?

Yes. Export at 1920 by 1080 for a standard video or 1080 by 1920 for Shorts. You keep the rights to whatever you make. You do need the rights to the music you upload.

Can I customize the waveform?

Yes. Thickness, amplitude, level of detail, whether the curve is smoothed and whether the area under it is filled are all adjustable, along with colour, glow, position, rotation and opacity. Mirrored and dual waveform variants have their own controls.

Can I create a spectrum visualizer?

Yes. There are several: vertical bars, a smooth frequency curve, a segmented equalizer, a dot matrix, a ridge shape and a three band meter. Bar count, spacing, corner radius and the frequency range each have a control.

Is it free to use?

Yes. Making and exporting a visualizer costs nothing, and there is no watermark on what you download. The only sizeable download is a one time encoder of about 32 MB, which arrives the first time you use the transparent export and is then cached.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign up and nothing to install. Open the page, drop in a track and start. Presets you save live in this browser rather than on a server, so they stay on the machine you made them on.

Does my music get uploaded?

No. The file is read by your browser, decoded there, and analysed there. Nothing about the audio is sent to a server, which is also why there is no queue and no waiting for a render to come back.

How long can my track be?

Up to ten minutes and 50 MB. Longer files are refused before decoding rather than failing halfway through a render.

Which browsers work best?

Chrome, Edge and Firefox support every feature, including the fast video export and the transparent export. Safari can preview and export, though its recording is less consistent, so it falls back to a slower path where it has to.
